Safe-ion exists because of an increasing number of incidents involving explosive battery fires
Lithium-ion batteries are ubiquitous today, found in devices ranging from smartphones, laptops, and garden tools to electric bicycles. These batteries boast an exceptionally high energy density, enabling devices to operate for extended periods on a single charge.
However, this high energy density also increases the risk of fire and even explosions. Businesses housing multiple lithium-ion batteries on their premises face an elevated risk. Storing these batteries in a safe minimizes this risk effectively!

Why are lithium batteries so dangerous?
A lithium-ion battery is lighter in weight compared to other types of batteries, yet highly powerful and compact. However, a minor mistake can lead to a short circuit, causing a cell to become unbalanced and overheat. This initiates a chain reaction known as ‘thermal runaway‘, resulting in combustion. This process generates extremely high temperatures, releasing significant amounts of black smoke and toxic gases. Such incidents often have explosive characteristics, with cells potentially shooting off and causing severe consequences.
Thermal runaway can be triggered by various factors, such as:
- Overcharging or deep discharge
- Physical damage from drops or impacts
- Moisture-induced short circuits
- Use of incorrect chargers
- Aging of the battery
